I have been reading about renting lenses from a few of the places online who rent photography cameras and lenses. I finally made the move and contacted one of the companies and ordered a lens (70-200 f4 IS). The lens is due Monday or Tuesday and I will have it for 8 days. I am looking forward to using a professional lens and see the results from it. I also will be using it to photograph several events for a high school class that is holding their 30th reunion this next weekend. I am positive that I will have a lot of fun and will most likely be sad when I return the lens. No doubt it will be one of those lenses on my which I could afford to buy it, though not able to list (many items on that list right now). This will be an experience, as I have been using only my 18-55mm kit lens that came with my camera (Rebel XS).
I will post a longer blog with a few of the photos made with the rented lens and give you my thoughts on the entire experience. So far I have been pleased with the way my order was promptly taken and emails sent to me to verify no one had accessed my accounts (email and bank) or was a victim of identity theft. I also learned that my LinkedIn profile had been viewed by someone from the company to see what kind of profile I had on the internet. Very good so far, as I like to see a company looks into things thoroughly in this day and age of identity fraud and theft. The company has shown so far that they are professional and do care for me as a customer. The real important thing now is will the lens arrived as promised and in good working order. I will find out in a few short days. Stay tuned….
Do you think renting photography equipment is for you? Would you rent one item or more? Would you choose to rent a professional quality lens out of your price range (that you couldn’t buy now)? What kinds of photos would you take with your rented lens and/or camera?
